As part of the implementation of the Interreg-Euro MED project “MAking Sustainable Tourism possible – MAST”, an Info Day dedicated to promoting sustainability in the accommodation sector was held, as part of a wider series of events that the MAST project is organising for local stakeholders across the Mediterranean.

Following the successful Info Day in Sarajevo, a new event took place on 3 April 2025 in Heraklion, Crete. The gathering brought together local hoteliers, tourism professionals, and regional actors with the aim of openly exchanging knowledge, challenges, and examples of good practice in the field of sustainable hospitality.

Sarajevo Meeting of Cultures (SMOC), as one of the partners in the MAST consortium, actively participated in the event and made a valuable contribution to the discussions and joint reflection on innovative approaches to sustainable development in the tourism sector. SMOC continues its commitment to these topics, carrying forward a series of activities that contribute to strengthening sustainable practices at both the local and regional levels.

The agenda of the event in Heraklion included:

  • An opportunity for local accommodation providers to share their experiences in implementing the ISO: 21401:2018 standard.
  • In-depth discussions on the practical challenges faced by hotel managers in achieving sustainability.
  • Direct dialogue between local stakeholders and MAST project partners, aimed at mutual learning and fostering collaboration.
  • Networking sessions that offered space for informal exchanges and building a stronger community.

The event once again confirmed the importance of local engagement and mutual understanding in creating a greener, more resilient, and long-term sustainable tourism sector.
